They were martyred at Dresda on the 24th August 1942. They went to prison in a spirit of faith and living out their Salesian spirituality. They prayed constantly: rosary, novenas to Don Bosco and Mary Help of Christians, morning and evening prayer. The tried to stay in contact with their families through messages they often succeeded in sending secretly.
For today’s youth, Czesław, Edward, Franciszek, Edward and Jarogniew are models for their defence of the value of life and the dignity of the person, and their opposition to false ideologies. Today’s false ideologies include racism, fanaticism, absolutism of the state, discrimination, and exploitation of the poorest and most vulnerable. These were young men who staked their whole lives on God, and on Jesus and his Gospel, as the source of happiness and life.
They are a really convincing proof of the validity of Salesian education.
